Position Summary

Mazzoni Center is seeking a Director of Clinical Research to lead and oversee our growing portfolio of clinical studies. This individual will manage all aspects of clinical research operations from sponsor coordination and regulatory compliance to staff leadership and community engagement.

The ideal candidate is a dynamic, mission-driven leader with deep expertise in clinical research and a strong commitment to inclusive, community-engaged research that benefits the populations we serve.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all clinical research operations, including staffing, resources, timelines, and budgets.
• Ensure full compliance with FDA, ICH-GCP, and other regulatory and ethical standards.
• Develop and maintain quality systems aligned with core Risk-Based Quality Management principles.
• Lead, motivate, and mentor a multidisciplinary research team (investigators, nurses, coordinators).
• Partner with sponsors, CROs, and other collaborators to ensure successful study execution.
• Conduct and oversee participant assessments, recruitment, and retention efforts.
• Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and timely reporting across all studies.
• Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to maintain study quality and safety.
• Foster transparent, equitable partnerships with community stakeholders, ensuring that research outcomes are both academically rigorous and socially impactful.
• Drive continuous process improvement in research operations and quality management.

Qualifications

Education & Training

• Registered Nursing or Public Health degree required; MSN or MPH preferred.
• At least 5 years of clinical research experience, including 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) or equivalent certification required.

Experience & Skills

• Nurse Practioner/PA Preferred
• Proven leadership in clinical research operations and compliance with international and U.S. regulatory standards.
• Expertise in developing and implementing clinical research policies, SOPs, and systems.
• Strong interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills with the ability to foster collaboration and resolve conflict.
• Demonstrated success in building inclusive, high-performing teams.
• Commitment to the values of community engagement, transparency, and equity in research.

All candidates must successfully complete:

• Criminal Background Check
• Child Abuse Clearance
• FBI Clearance

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English.
