The Clinical Nurse Coord NVICU at HCA Healthcare is a leadership-focused registered nurse role within the Healthcare & Medical Services department, providing advanced, patient-centered care in a Neurovascular Intensive Care Unit. Based within a leading healthcare system known for compassionate, team-based practice, this position blends direct bedside care with clinical coordination, staff support, and quality improvement initiatives. The Clinical Nurse Coord NVICU delivers expert nursing care to critically ill neuro and vascular patients, including those with stroke, traumatic brain injury, post-neurosurgical conditions, and complex hemodynamic needs. This nurse actively coordinates patient care across the multidisciplinary teamphysicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, respiratory and rehabilitation therapists, social workers, and case managersto ensure safe, timely, and evidence-based treatment plans. Responsibilities include ongoing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care; titration of critical drips; management of invasive monitoring; ventilator and airway management in collaboration with respiratory therapy; and close neurological and hemodynamic monitoring with rapid escalation of concerns.

In addition to direct care, the Clinical Nurse Coord NVICU provides clinical leadership at the unit level by serving as a resource and role model for bedside nurses and support staff. The role helps coordinate daily patient flow, assists with complex admissions and transfers, facilitates handoffs, and supports staffing and assignment decisions in collaboration with charge nurses and management. This nurse promotes adherence to clinical protocols, core measures, and regulatory standards, actively participates in performance improvement and patient safety initiatives, and supports implementation of evidence-based neurocritical care practices. The role involves precepting and mentoring new team members, contributing to competency validation, and encouraging a culture of continuous learning and professional development consistent with HCA Healthcares focus on growth and innovation.

The Clinical Nurse Coord NVICU also plays a key part in patient and family education, translating complex medical information into understandable guidance, advocating for patient preferences, and ensuring that care is respectful, culturally sensitive, and aligned with best practices. Provide advanced, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill neurovascular ICU patients, including complex assessments and continuous monitoring
Coordinate multidisciplinary care plans with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, case management, and ancillary staff to optimize patient outcomes
Administer and titrate high-risk medications and vasoactive drips, manage invasive lines and hemodynamic monitoring, and assist with ventilator and airway management in collaboration with respiratory therapy
Support daily patient flow on the NVICU, including complex admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring safe and efficient transitions of care
Serve as a clinical resource and role model for bedside nurses and support staff, assisting with problem-solving and escalation of changes in patient condition
Participate in and help lead unit-based quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives, ensuring adherence to protocols, core measures, and regulatory standards
Precept, mentor, and support orientation and competency development for new nurses and team members on the NVICU
Provide clear, compassionate education to patients and families regarding conditions, treatments, and care plans, advocating for patient needs and preferences
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record to support continuity, communication, and regulatory compliance
Collaborate with leadership on staffing needs, unit processes, and practice improvements that reinforce a culture of teamwork, learning, and patient-centered care

Progressive Care/Neuro or ICU experience in an acute care hospital
